Windows 8.1 keeps auto installing drivers

Hi,

I am using Windows 8.1 and it keeps installing HD Audio drivers (5 of them!). I have disabled onboard sound in the BIOS, and uninstalled the HD audio drivers through Device Manager (and I've also uninstalled the Realtek Audio driver via 'Programs and Features') many times already, and after restarting they keep coming back. I have set Windows to not install drivers from Windows Update, but Windows is stubborn, apparently.

The same happens with the NVIDIA driver for my GTX 560 Ti. Windows installs an older version, which I can easily overwrite by installing the latest from NVIDIA's website, but I'd still like Windows to stop being so "pushy".

The reason I want the Realtek HD Audio drivers gone is because I can't get my ESI Juli@ audio card to work (after installing its driver, Windows says 'No audio devices are installed').

Thanks!

Thanks for the link, but I already did what it says. Anyway, problem solved by removing the ESI Juli@ card, removing onboard audio drivers, restarting, installing ESI Juli@ driver, and physically installing the card again. Onboard audio and NVIDIA drivers were still auto installed (even though I removed the WiFi antenna!), but audio works so who cares. :)

That link doesn't work for me. I first see a page on Tom's Hardware, then it settles down to the microcentertech.com home page.

I'm having a similar problem: when I switch the sound output between my computer and a TV connected to the computer by an HDMI cable, the sound (volume control) is sometimes muted and sometimes not muted, seemingly randomly.

Windows 8.1; Firefox 53.0/32bit; Sound/On communications activity: do nothing; Audio devices: Realtek High Definition Audio, Intel Display Audio

I would highly suggest that you start a new thread, this one is rather old and the issue is not quite the same. Good luck. :)
