hey everyone,

some time ago I bough the Radeon R9 270x (2gb). I am decently sattisfied with it and can play almost everything with decent settings. One problem I have always had from the beginning is that the driver stops responding when using its maximum clock settings (1400MHz). This basically forces me to play on 1100 MHz where I find no issues at all. I tried reinstalling the driver etc.
Is there anyone who can help me identify where the issue is located so can I can fix it?
It would really appreciated!

Specs:

MSI 970A-G43 motherboard
8gb DDR 3 ram
AMD FX 4300 Black Edition - 3.8GHz Processor
500W power supply
Windows 8.1

None apparently, the tweak software I got with it makes me able to set it to 1400 MHz but apparently this counts as overclocking?

Exactly. Just because the scale on the OC'ing app goes that high, doesn't mean your GPU will be stable at that clock speed...as you've found out. And an increase in clock speed usually requires a voltage increase as well.
