What AMD processor has the best single core performance? and does it effect how fps you get in games compared to processors with a lower single core performance?

Im not really sure, i would definitely assume the amd vishera fx cpus have the best single core performance like the fx 4300, 6300, 8320. If you really want single core performance go intel. What do you want to compare? Like a fx 6300 vs an anthlon 860k? Of an fx6300 vs an apu? It depends on the game, games that are mulithreaded dont need serious single core performance games that aren't multi threaded do. Im not really sure how to answer this question, what cpus are you looking at and what are the rest of your systm specs? i might be able to help you decide on one.

That cpu is an abomination its just a really hot power sucking overcloked version of the 8320, it probably does have the best single core performance stock but you can overclock an 8320 and get it close to the same performance without all the heat and power draw of the 9590.

Of course it is (an i7-4790K is almost twice as fast in single core performance), but its stock speeds (5GHz turbo) assures its title of the fastest AMD CPU in both single- and multithreaded scenarios.

Well i would go for an fx 6300 for that system. That motherboard probably isn't enough for the 8 core 8320 with a 125 watt tdp, it would work but your motherboard VRM'S will get quite hot, even the 6300 will push that baord hard. So my recommendation would be a fx 6300 and dont overclok it the motherboard wont like that.

I would not trust your motherboard to run an FX-8xxx, not even the lower power FX-8370E. In games you will benefit most of a GPU upgrade; even an GTX750Ti will be a big upgrade over your 650.

The fx 6300 is far better than the fx 4130. And the fx 6300 is under 100 now, i think its worth the upgrade.

lets agree to disagree :)

OP, save your money and make a decent upgrade to intel CPU. With your current GPU you wont notice any significant performance increase in at gaming.

You can, for example, sell you current CPU and motherboard and use the money to buy intel.

Bulldozer has very slow cores and is very lackluster in gaming. Your synthetic benchmark does not seem to be showing that difference due to its multithreaded optimized nature. Gaming however is where single thread performance is still important and pile driver improves immensely on single core performance over bulldozer. Here is an article abt if you wish to read it. Or just look up bulldozer vs piledriver. I agree intel would be nice but that would require a lot more than the $90 for a 6300.

You are right in one thing, the single thread speed is very important in gaming, more than the multithread performance. But the single thread speed between FX 4130 and FX-6300 is low.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-6300+Six-Core (Single Thread Rating: 1411)
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-4130+Quad-Core (Single Thread Rating: 1259)

So the difference is about 12% between them, which means that at most he will get a slightly better performance with an FX-6300.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-4160+%40+3.60GHz&id=2317 (Single Thread Rating: 2081) 65% better single threat performance.

I keep saying that he should not update to another AMD CPU, he should keep the one he has until he's ready to buy an intel CPU. Yes it will cost more than the FX 6300, but at least it will not be a waist of money.

I have always been told bulldozer is terrible in gaming and just in general but what you have posted seems to show otherwise. And i cant seem to find any benchmarks comparing the fx 4130 to the fx 6300 in gaming, so i will just have to admit i was wrong.
