so I'm planning a build and am uncertain of the set up i should use. I'm going to college so i don't want the hassle and maintenance of an open loop system, and need more thermal head room than an air cooler (obviously) so my question is what 240mm setup should i get?
cpu- I'll be using is the i7-5960k
Mother Board- x99 deluxe tax
case- Nzxt Noctis 450 ATX
going to be using some very intense programs and will need to OC like crazy, so my goal is to remove the thermal bottleneck and get all that hot air out of the case. what do i use?
(these are the fans I'm using for the case, unless you recommend other ones for the best possible case airflow and getting good air pressure in the system)

The H220-X is a dual 120mm radiator.

Good air coolers run neck and neck with most common all in one coolers, give or take 1-2C on average either way. The Swiftech H220-X and H240-X are built off the DDC line of pumps, which are very good. Most all in one coolers have pretty dismal pumps that are quite weak and have very low flowrates. The H220-X also allows you to expand the loop in the future if you decide to add another radiator or GPU block, whereas you cannot do this with a normal all in one boxed cooler.

Of course, there are other entry-level watercooling kits by XSPC and EK that are quite good for the money as well, but since you are out for simplicity, I'd suggest a good air cooler or that Swiftech H220-x (2x120mm rad) or...

i don't really know the clock speed I'm going for but i know i need to get some heavy performance out of the computer for college so the higher the clock speed the better, i don't have time to be messing with the hassles of an open loop system (and don't want the additional pump noise and expenses) i can only due up to 240mm rad due to the case (although id change that up as long as i could find a clean white case with a window panel and the other side panel was flat and clean looking (so it can get painted) and i prefer the underflow of the Noctis 450.

The only hassle to building an actual watercooling loop is learning what you need an installing it, and that really is only a hassle if you don't want to learn about it.

For what you're about to spend on a closed loop cooler, you're probably going to be disappointed in the expected performance and should probably go with a good air cooler instead. The only cooler that fits this category that I'd even come close to recommending is the Swiftech H220-X http://www.performance-pcs.com/swiftech-h220-x-dual-120mm-cpu-liquid-cooling-kit.html

i thought air coolers weren't that good, or couldn't cool as well as a closed loop water cooler (or open loop)
and my issue with the H220 is that its only a 120mm radiator, I'm looking to do some heavy OC and just don't think that would cut it. please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty concerned because I'm going to be running this computer about 8-10 hours a day if not more, and over clocking probably 6-8 hours, i can't have something thats going to crap out my CPU after just a few days or limit my OC. while at the sometime i can't have some loud ass thing due to my room mate in college
