Hi guys, I built my pc in 2012.

CPU: Intel i7 950 3.07 GHz
EVGA GTX 670 FTW
6GB RAM (2x3)
X58A-UD3R

It's been great but I want to upgrade so I can max out Witcher 3 and future proof it (for 1080P games). I'm deciding between the 970 and 980 but would like some input as to whether I should I should also upgrade my CPU. Any help/guidance would be appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Solution
In short : OC CPU + Buy Good Cooler + buy 6GB more Ram later buy 970 or 980 :)

i7 950 is decent CPU OC up to 4 - 4.4Ghz and you will be happy :)
OC give you 30 - 45% more performance on CPU and you not see bottleneck on 970 or even 980 in most games on Crysis 3 in some location you can have drop to 55 FPS but on most off game 60+ FPS ;)

Game tests with i7 975 (similar performance to your CPU after OC) and other CPUs to compare
