Guys, I'm leaving to the US this july to pursue my higher studies. I can't take my current laptop as my parents need it. I wanted to buy a good laptop ranging between $700-$1000 right after i go there but people suggested me that there would be great deals during the Black Friday and asked me to go buy a cheap chromebook or something around @200 for the time being. What should i do?? If y'all suggest me to go with a basic laptop/chromebook until Black Friday, which one should i go with?

That's very basic requirement, ANY would do.

Forget that black friday stuff, plus you don't want to be thinking about buying a tool in the middle of your term, you got other things to think about, like TESTS! :D and why Americans stuff with turnkeys on Thanksgiving.

For people going to school I always say BUY WHAT THE SCHOOL USES. For college, what YOUR DEPARTMENT uses. Engineering often use Windows-based Apps. Art, Macs. Don't forget student discounts, specially software which can have big diffrential$$.

For the cheaper one, i will be using it only for watching movies, microsoft office and stuff like that, editing documents, skype etc.

I'm from the U.S. and I wouldn't recommend waiting until black Friday. The sales are just to get people in the stores and the REALLY good deals are very limited. For example BestBuy may have Laptops that are normally $500 for $299 but there are only 5 or 6 at that price and they are gone in like 60 seconds from the doors opening.

So unless you want to see American culture at its worse (people have literally been trampled to death with the influx of folks once the doors open plus the rudeness that goes on with greedy shoppers), I would recommend stay far far away from Black Friday sales. Online is a little different story but websites have sales all the time so black friday is no different than any other holiday sale online.

You're better off getting a good laptop now. The Lenovo Y50 and Y40s are good student/gaming laptops in your price range.

Well i said i people suggested me to buy some basic laptop/chromebook(<$200) in the start right, for that ill be using just skype, movies, MS office and stuff like that. But when i go for the bigger one($700-$1000) during black friday, Ill be gaming. So is it a wise thing to buy a basic laptop in the start and wait till Black Friday or should i go with the bigger one at the start itslef. Whatever your choice is, please do suggest the laptop in that segment also.
