SSD Free Space Disappearing

I installed a 240GB SSD into my PC yesterday. With just the OS and 3 games installed. After everything was installed I had around 70GB left. The day after ( today ) I check and I have 50GB free space. I went onto the SSD to see if anything was installed there by mistake, but there is barely anything.

I also deleted a small program off the SSD and my capacity went down instead of up. Do SSD's change how much storage is available or something?

I had the same issue, free space kept shrinking, 2-4 GB a day, sometimes more. Was driving me crazy.

I ran thru the SSD Optimization checklist that thessdreview.com has on their website, and it stopped.

It's found around 6GB of files that can be deleted. Where would the other 14GB have gone? I checked the file size of the desktop folder and that said 5GB even though I have nothing on the desktop.

Hi

Was space free space measured before or after ALL Microsoft updates were downloaded?

If you delete files to recycle bin the hidden recycle bin takes up more free space

look at configuration of Recycle Bin and Restore Points to see what % of hard drive (SSD) they can use

If the free space continues to go down then you need to investigate further

Disk Cleanup can help reduce un needed backup files created by upgrading from 7 to 7 SP1 or 8.0 to 8.1
(what Windows version did you install)

My C: partition for Windows 7 SP1 is 70 GB (from 120GB SSD)
This is rather small but I have a seperate 1 TB hard drive for data etc

Hi Mike,
I did check the free space after all the updates were finished. I also checked the recycling bin and it says it's stored on my HDD, so that won't take up SSD space. I have been installing a large steam library on the HDD and I'm wondering if some of those files have been moved onto the SSD.
