Whats the Difference between the EVGA-Geforce GTX-970 & NVIDIA

Ah. Got it.

Anyhow the difference between the two is at it's base level, the Nvidia is a 'reference card' which is what Nvidia themselves build and sell to provide a 'base level' of sorts for the particular GPU and relative format.

The EVGA card uses the same GPU, but may have a bolstered power circuit, faster memory clocks which have been tweaked, and a slightly higher GPU clock, all augmented by a slightly bigger/better cooler and fans which allow for slightly enhanced performance. Looking at the specs:

Nvidia card:
GPU clock: 1050 mhz
Boost GPU: 1178 mhz
RAM: 7000 mhz

EVGA:
GPU Clock: 1190 mhz
Boost GPU: 1378 mhz
RAM: 7010 mhz

So, the EVGA card has about 10% on the stock clock, about 15% on the boost clock, and roughly equivalent RAM bandwidth. So, the EVGA would be a stitch faster. Considering that they're both the same price, getting the EVGA would be a no-brainer unless the connectivity makes a difference.

The EVGA has dual DVI, one DP, one HDMI. The Nvidia reference card has 3 DP, one HDMI, one DVI. So - much depends on what you're going to connect to the card.

A 970 is a 970 regardless. Sure the EVGA one may be overclocked but it doesn't turn it into a 980. It means very little to your gaming experience. The only thing to watch for is that sometimes better fans means quiet. Pallit, usually the cheapest brand, is often quite loud. EVGA is a good one. I cannot confirm what Nvidias own are like.

Generally, yes, although both have a 'standard GPU' since they're both identical... :) One is just being twisted a little harder. And don't knock the standard cooler, the Nvidia coolers are pretty darn quiet and very effective. AMD's reference cooler on the other hand, certainly qualifies for the 'crappy' moniker (except for their water coolers...).

I have a XFX AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series card right now and it gets pretty loud when playing project cars. I'm also looking to play the witcher 3 and the batman. I figure with the discounts and such it's a good time and if a 980 goes on sale I can always sell my both and probably break even or better as far as cost
