If I were looking to get a server for the purpose of hosting games, what would be the best line of server for the purpose? Proliant? Poweredge? Some other type?

Solution
To host games, unless you need an extraordinary amount of RAM, you don't need a true server chassis. For a large LAN party where you have hundreds of people supported, a true server could be appropriate.

What scale of game hosting are you trying to accomplish?

Well, we only intend to have perhaps 10-20 people on it at once, but some of the games tend to be a bit stressful, especially when modded. For example, we currently run on a machine with 24GB of RAM (RAM has never been the limiting factor) and dual Xeon X5560s (which are the limiting factor). When we attempt to run a modded Space Engineers server, we have issues with the server forcing a lower sim speed after only a few days, due to server-side performance issues. Furthermore, we do need a fair bit of RAM, as we play a game called Starmade a lot, which uses an extraordinary amount of server memory (12+ GB).

I'm not looking for someone to host a server for me, I'm looking to buy the hardware and operate it myself.
