Hi, I'm contemplating building my own gaming PC for the first time, and I am afraid that I'll do something really stupid and waste all my money, time and effort, so I'm hoping that somebody will be able to tell me if the following looks like a good build, and if I need to do something extra. My budget is around 1500 $

MSI GTX 970 4GB
MSI Z97 Gaming 5
i5 4590 3.3GHZ 4core
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB HDD
Fractal Design Define R5 case
G.Skill Trident X 4x4GB RAM
Cooler Master V650S Power Supply
Asus DRW 24F1ST
Windows 8.1

What I am most worried about is whether this is a sensible and balanced build and whether I need some extra cooling. I have used this site to check out most of the components, so I am pretty confident in them...

thank in advance,
Pjtrdk

The Samsung 840 EVO had a lot of issues - we all think they are fixed in the 850, but do you want to take a chance? If it were me, I might buy a competitor's SSD which has had a better track record, like a Crucial MX200.

Agree that the 290X is equal performance at a cheaper price - better value.

Think you are wasting a little money on all that RAM - you doing anything besides gaming, or just general use? That much RAM is only needed if you're doing really intensive stuff, like encoding, folding, rendering, etc.

The Design R5 is a nice case - I would personally put another front fan in it (it only comes with one up front, and one in the rear).

I sorta agree with above - might be worth your while (if you're savvy) to get a 4690k, an...
I would recommend a 4690k processor. Cool it with a cooler master hyper 212 evo. As for a GPU, I would recommend a Radeon R9 290 since it offers the same performance and is more affordable. Over all a very nice build. It will perform very well for you. Congrats.

Well I presonaly think that it is a good build but if I was you I would get a 120/128GB SSD rather then 250GB because I would have only my programs and my OS on it and the games etc.. would be on the HDD and the money saved that I would get by getting the 120GB rather then 250GB I would invest in a better PSU,GPU... but anyway it is a good build in my opinion.
