Can extra vram increase performance on an older gpu

I am shopping for a gaming laptop, and my choices are between a Nvidia GTX 960M with 2GB of vram and a GTX 860M with 4GB of vram.

Will the extra vram make any difference quality wise?

960m and 860m are the same card with the expection of clockspeed where the 960m is clocked 70 mhz faster. For the reason, the benchmarks are going to be close and neither card can use all 4 gb and produce playable frame rates. 2 gb is more than enough for that gpu.
