Best 500GB to 1TB SSD

Solution
You will not run a RAID with a SSD and HDD. The SSD would run as slow as the HDD.
Your best bet is to get a 1tb SSD or just get a 250gb one like a Samsung EVO series. If you game you will not see a benefit except on game load times. If you would do the RAID there would be no performance increase even over the HDD.

I have a lot of games... What do you suggest is a good size to get then?

I understand your point, however I feel tempted to mention that SSD's greatly improvement performance in editing programs like Premiere and indeed not only the files themselves but also the temporary files which are created when working.

As I said though, I completely agree and unless OP have 900ish GB worth of games or is using the SSD as a work drive, it seriously does not make much sense, to get a 1TB SSD.

I have both a 512 (for the sole drive in a laptop) and a 256 GB + 1 TB spinning disk for games/pictures/music/other data in my desktop.

If you have a game that has really, really slow loading times, or stutters at times like an open-world game loading textures, that's a good candidate for something to put on the SSD. Anything else besides the OS and commonly used programs you should try to keep off a SSD...most games take up tons of space, and there are some decently fast 7200 RPM spinning disks that will suit you well for data storage needs. Look at the WD Black, HGST/WD Enterprise, or Seagate Constellation drives for fast and reliable disk access.

I don't advice transfering an old windows to a new system at all. I probably won't even work completely because of the new configuration. Windows doesn't like you re-using their OS to much.
Unless you bought a windows Full edition you can deactivate it on the old pc an reactivate it on the new one. Which I doubt you bought because they mostly sell OEM versions or it was already installed on your pc. OEM versions should not be moved. They "bind" themselves to your pc hardware.

That said... if you want to risk it:
If you buy one from samsung, they provide free migration software on their website.
Keep in mind that you have to hook the old hdd and the new ssd up both at the same time. So if you can't do that, Buy a Sata to Usb cable to connect the ssd via usb to your old computer.

There is enough free migration software and other SSD manufactures supply them aswell just like samsung, I just don't know any good ones.
