Now two computers are showing read-only after backing up small files.

I have an Asus x55u laptop. This laptop is running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 500GB hard drive. I put the system to sleep last night. This morning, I tried to wake the system only to find a unlit screen. I held down the power button and shut the system off and restarted. Windows would not start! After restarting a few times, Windows started without a problem. After logging on, the system seemed fine until I tried to delete a folder. The folder was somehow read-only? I right-clicked on it and and clicked properties. Read-only was checked. I unchecked it and a window popped up "Acess is denied". Yes, I'm the administrator. I've used this same account for 3 years with no issues. I checked other folders and files. Everything is read-only! After several restarts to no avail, I tried to uninstall a program. The installer told me that "Acess is denied". The system is not affected as I checked everything! The hard drive is reading slower than usual. I've had two files vanish on the desktop already. I'm now preparing for the worst. Update: Now the backup is only going at 4MBS. Another file has vanished. Still backing up. Update 2: This is very strange. After I backed up files from my laptop and onto a desktop running Windows 7, now that desktop is showing everything as read-only! Either the files are badly corrupted or there is a virus spreading within my files. Avast Anti Virus has not detected anything on either computers. I'm freaked out right now. Now both computers are running like crap.

As of now, I can't install anything. The system acts like I have no right to write files to the disk.

I ran the application over my home group network from my desktop. The health status is good. According to Crystal Disk, the hard drive is fine. The system itself is running poorly now and takes 3 seconds for it to open a folder with Windows Explorer. I've been confused and thankful that this didn't happen in the middle of the school year.
