Witcher 3 Upgrade, Aging Gaming System

So, for Witcher 3, I'm faced with a dilemma. Do I just play it with my system as is? I just cleaned out all the dust and tested fans and whatnot, I could do a little OC'ing perhaps...

Or, do I upgrade the GPU. Or buy another card and try SLI.

Or, do I update the CPU, in which case I would probably upgrade the mobo, and the GPU.

I have money, but need to keep things to the cheaper end of the spectrum, because I also have 3 kids. I basically want to spend as little to be happy with the system for Witcher 3 and other games that may be coming.

Specs:
Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H AM3 AMD 890GX
AMD Phenom II x4 965
Radeon HD 7770 2gb (Asus, I think)
12gb of RAM

The game would be running on an SSD, if that makes any difference. My research tells me that if the above components are running optimally, the game should run solidly on lower settings.

Can anyone give me a "most bang for your buck" type of advice? I have a feeling that with the age of my system, upgrading one thing is like opening pandora's box of upgrades, in which case I would need to get approval from the person with two X chromosomes.

For now you need a good GPU and oc the Phenom II x4 965, but you need upgrade the cpu+MB too if you want to play the newer games.

Here is the review for Witcher 3 http://www.techspot.com/review/1006-the-witcher-3-benchmarks/ you can see the cpu is fine, but you need the GPU. Also check the link for GPU hierarchy chart http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html , the gtx660 is 3 tier up that compared with your hd 7770. You may buy a single good GPU you can afford.

For the cpu+MB, I recommend to get the Xeon E3-1231v3 + H97 or Z97 if you don't want to oc. The E3-1231v3 s a Core i7 4770 equivalent without the HD Graphics. If you want to oc and get the i5 4690k +Z97. Or even wait for the intel Skylake...
