My specs
- MSI 990fxa gd80 mobo
-8350 amd cpu
- hi100i water cooler
-gtx 760 gpu
-700 watt PSU
-16Gb Ram Ripjaws 2133mhz
- 2 Tb HHD toshiba
-asus blue ray, dvd, cd burner

This is a new build, the motherboard and cpu were used, but everything else is new. The computer will post and when I go to install windows 8, it will freeze up everytime. Sometimes even when i am not loading windows and i am on the motherboard settings page it will freeze up. I have tried many different things and I will list them, but I was able to load windows 8 once but when it rebooted, it froze again. So windows will try to automatic repair and it will freeze. I set the cd/dvd drive as first boot in bios and tried to install windows again and it froze. The one time I was able to load windows I took out the cmos battery for 15 minutes and it didn't freeze until i rebooted. I am not sure why taking out the cmos battery helped.

This is what I have tried so far:
I have tried using one ram stick and in different slots
Clearing the cmos
I took out the Ram completely to make sure board would do a post error code
I have taken it to two different computer repair stores, Neither store could fix it, but both thought it was the motherboard.
I have replaced the motherboard, the seller of mobo was on ebay, he would not refund the money but replaced it. I am pretty sure its a different board because i wrote down all the numbers on the board. Still the same thing occurs
The bios has the most updated version, but one computer store reset the bios and then updated again. nothing changed
Both computer stores said they tried different HDDs, Ram sticks,Gpu,Psu and cd drives, neither one could interchange the cpu or motherboard but they were sure it was motherboard.
Also I have tried doing this outside the case and on cardboard to make sure it wasn't a short
I have replace the cmos battery as well

Does anyone have any ideas? Also can anyone think of why it seemed to work after i took out the cmos battery? Im lost and so are the computer repair stores. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day

What is the model number of your memory?

Without knowing that, based on what you wrote, one thing you could try is replacing the memory. Your motherboard supports memory with a voltage up to 1.5, and some Ripjaws advertised for 2133 MHz, 8GBx2, are 1.6 volts. The excess voltage can cause random freezing. If you do have said memory that exceeds the 1.5 volts, you could try putting in a stick of 1.5 volt memory and set it to 1333 MHz (no overclocking for stability), and see if Windows will install and the computer will run fine for a day.

Edit to add: Ensure your computer is unplugged from the wall outlet (no electricity going to it) and you are grounded (no static electricity - touch a piece of metal or something) before adding/removing plugging/unplugging anything inside your case. You may already know this but I wanted to add it just to be safe in case you do end up trying different RAM.

triplej: yes it is 1.6v ram, I have heard it should be ok though. The guys at computer repair store said they tried other ram and my ram on another board, but you never know. So I actually already ordered more Ram just to make sure. Ill find out on Tues or Wed if this fixes the problem. Thanks, it might just work.

tiny voices: it is a corsair cx750 psu. I have more memory on the way to make sure. Also this is the second motherboard this has occured on. I bought the motherboard online and the seller would not refund but sent me a replacement board. Both boards are doing the same thing. I did check to make sure it is a different board and sure enough it is. So hopefully I didn't get two bad boards from the same guy, lol.

well its definitely not bad memory, so maybe motherboard? If so this I guy i bought this motherboard from has now sent me 2 bad motherboards. I have ordered a new motherboard, cpu, and ssd to test everything to make sure. Anyone else have any ideas. I heard I might need an older bios and the newest version might be bad, but at the computer store they reset the bios and it didn't work, then restored the newest one and again still doesn't work.

it was ebay actually, the guy wouldn't refund my first board but replaced it. his rating was 99.6%, but never know if it the board for sure. I will find out soon after getting all new parts and i am going to try using older bios versions and give it a try
