I need help finishing this computer. I don't really know what is good these days when it comes to top of the line cpu's and motherboards in different price ranges. I was wondering if some of you can help me put together a $600 computer with the best of the best but inculding with what I have already selected.

Power supply must be 450w or more and can support a graphics card.

Do NOT include the graphics card! I already have one at hand so no need to buy another.

I love options btw so if you have different combinations let me hear em! or if you guys can just tell me whats good and not anymore, I can try putting some of my own together.

Really nice CPU for when you want to upgrade your GPU. Its a bit unbalanced with that GPU, but will serve you well.

The only thing I would change if we had more money is a better H97 Motherboard.

Woah a Xeon. May I ask why you picked that CPU?

Because it's basically like a Core i7 at a Core i5 price. If you want to overclock it's not the CPU for you though.

So a E3-1231 is more powerful than the i5-4690K? In which areas does the Xeon surpass the i5?

The Core i5 is better for gaming and the Xeon is better for video editing and other multicore applications that can use more than 4 threads.

Even though it's not a "gaming" cpu, it will still run games with no problem right? Because there will be gaming happening on it occasionally.

I'm sure it can run Borderlands on max, from what I see.

DIYPC Solar-M1-R ATX Mid Tower Case has front panel USB 3.0 ports, but the Gigabyte GA-H81M-H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard does not have onboard USB 3.0 headers.

The G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory operating voltage of 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5% (1.575V). This memory module may run at a reduced clock rate to meet the 1.5V voltage recommendation, or may require running at a voltage greater than the Intel recommended maximum.

The parts you picked out arent 100% compatible, according to pcpartpicker

It will still work fine. You dont need to use the front 3.0 usb ports and the voltage with RAM will just run lower and not cause problems.

If you need the 3.0s then get the H97 motherboard.

The reason I suggest the Xeon is because games may getting the the point where they will use those threads. Its a fine gaming CPU.

Here is different RAM if you're really that concerned:

If you really needed to make it under 600 then make the 2tb drive for a 1 tb.

EDIT: the posted price is different than the actual one in the build on PCpartpicker website. see that one for actual price.
