I have a ga-78lmt-s2p mobo and I might purchase a amd fx 8370 cpu with 125w and was wondering with my corsair 1050w power supply if I could put the 8370 125w cpu in the 95w cpu socket and boot up fine....I figured in this case voltage would play a part in it working and wanted to ask?

Solution
The socket would be the limiting factor. The board is designated as a 95w design because of the vrm's, source power doesn't matter. It's what the board itself and it's components are capable of. Overstressing the vrm's is asking for trouble in my opinion.

The PSU plays no part here.
The socket is rated for 95W TDP.
I'm pretty sure it's not safe to use a 125W CPU.
I've certainly heard of people doing it but what you'll be doing is putting a lot of strain on that board and you're going to wear it out.
The board could possibly undervolt the CPU, hindering performance or you could just straight up cause damage.
Or it just won't work, that board you mentioned is pretty cheap, you'll just be asking for trouble.
If you're going to purchase a new CPU that has a higher TDP, just buy a new mobo.
