4+4pin eps12v on msi x99a sli plus board

hi all would like some help/advice. I've recently bought a new system and having fun putting it together lol. I've got an evga 1000g psu and a msi x99a sli plus mobo. I've put in the cpu and plugged the 24 pin atx cable in fine. Now heres the problem ,the other cable for the power to the cpu has at one end a 8 pin cable which fits in fine into the psu but at the other end of the cable is a 4+4 pin atx plugs now only one of the plugs fits in.Should both plugs fit in to make a 8 pin or will a 4 pin be suffice. Will a molex to 8 pin work.

4+4 < They should both fit , I own 4 EVGA power supplies , they all fit into the CPU 8 pin.

You don't use a MOLEX for this.

look at the male and female parts of the plugs you will notice there ''key'' fit don't force anything if unsure

see how some ''holes'' are square and some are kinda rounded at one side they must match

the end that is 8pin fits both on the psu and mobo but the 4+4 end, only one of the 4 fits grrrrr

I'm lost now on this ? now the 8 pin part should go into the back of the psu and the 4x4 goes into the board

you did see what I said about the keyed plugs above ?? each one should only fit in its correct spot [do not force]

right ill try again lol #=square pin,* =round pin .
on my psu and the mobo the socket is #**#
-------------------------------------------------*##* which fits the 8 pin plug
the 4+4 is ***#
-------------**#* so only half fits

so do i just use one of the 4 pins or do i go out and buy an 8 pin that fits .... sorry to be a pain

There's no reason the 4+4 shouldn't fit on the board , All 4 of mine do.

the 4x4 side is the same pin set as the full 8 pin side just its split in 2 halves mind the the shapes and position of the plug in holes

out side of all this I don't know where to go

I usually hold them together then insert them.

does it make a difference if the cable from the psu is a 4+4pin eps12v cable

the lead for cpu is 8 pin on one end and 4x4 on the other ? the 8 pin goes into the psu and the 4x4 into the board - its that way cause some boards are just 4 pin on the board and makes the plug universal fit of all boards use
