How to connect 4pin pwm fan to nzxt 3 pin 410 fan controller

I have 4 pin pwm fan and my fan controller on nzxt 410 only have space fo 3 pins. i know 4 pin fans are backward compatible with 3 pins but in this case i have housing around 3 pins so i cannot insert a 4 pin fan. What do i do to make it work? any ideas

You can plug a 3 pin into a 4 pin but not the other way around. You got it wrong dude. You need a pin multiport. You shouldve checked the compatability filter with pcpartpicker

The BIOS would control its speed, based on temperature, or your preferences. I'd rather connect a fan to the motherboard, than a fan controller.

i like fan controllers

also a 4pin can plug into a 3 pin socket, you just loose pwm which is not an issue with a nice fan controller

lastly the socket for the 3 pin should be keyed to make that 4 pin only fit one way.

correct but my aim is to cool down GPU. Bios cant monitor GPU temperature and/or control fans based on GPU temperature. so it negates the benefit where as connecting to fan controller i can manually shoot the speed up when i know GPU is being utilized at 100%

I see your point, but in your case (4 vs 3 pin), the best option is the board, if pwm headers available.

this is the beauty of a manual fan controller. most people have mixed brands and sizes of case fans. this also means different levels of static pressure. the only way to truly be able to create a true equilibrium between intake/ exhaust is to have a well set fan controller. I have heard the newest asus boards have really great individual fan control but if that is not an option for you a fan controller can really help temps.

not to mention for benchmarking you can just quickly max out all of your fans

Hello Azfar, Its not recommended in snaping the housing off, just to fit a 4 pin fan. I would get a fan controller that supports PWM fans, instead.

Try buying an inexpensive 3-pin fan splitter adapter. It converts one 3-pin male output connector (such as on your controller) to two male outputs. But those two outputs are free in the air, and it should be easy to plug your 4-pin fan connector into one of those. Just put tape around the other output connector so it does not short against something. Should be able to by such a splitter for about US$2.00. If you do this, check the pins on the output connectors. The correct adapters are missing Pin #3 on ONE of the two outputs. The connector with the missing pin is the one to tape up and NOT use.

If you did want to modify the connector, just look at how the key lines up with the connector on your fan and cut the side that overlaps with the fan's connector so it fits. Some PWM fans are known to not run well when voltage controlled, but generally there's nothing wrong with it--they will run that way. Just note that they may not be able to reach the minimum speed that's achievable via PWM.

I guess the biggest issue would be voiding the warranty, which (if it came with the case) would void the case's warranty, too.

it weird because im getting all mixed up answers. some are saying it has 7 connectors and some say 8. YOu are saying it has 5
