I never heard of a sound card getting fried, but I think that's what happened to me. PC was on, and then after the reboot, sound no longer works. I tried headphone jacks and same thing. This was the built in sound card on the mobo, so I guess I need to get a cheap pci sound card or something along those lines.

Solution
Yes it's possible for a lightning strike to kill any motherboard component, even the motherboard itself.
It makes sense, therefore, to plug the PSU in to a quality-made, certified surge-protected power strip.
I never plug any of my PC gear straight in to a wall socket.
