Because, you know, that specific urge is just growing more and more fierce :D Any downsides? Are the upsides worthy the buy? Thanks :)

It is a good solution economically for people who have a 970 already. You can accept the increased heat/noise problem in return for good FPS on many games.

However there are titles where they don't scale well enough or very well at all. Here it becomes a problem. This is happening less and less, however it is still a regular occurance outside the top AAA titles.

there are many benefits and less hassle and running costs with single GPU solutions.

What I would not recommend is buying two cards, only adding another if you already have one instead.

You get a little more heat and noise but a higher frame rate/higher settings on games that support it. I think it is worth it if you are running a high refresh rate monitor or playing at a resolution higher than 1080p.

I recently switched to a sli 970 build and I have to say how much the temps increased surprised me. My card never got above 60 C but now my top card frequently hits mid 70's or higher when bench marking. I plan on adding more case fans to help alleviate this problem a little bit.
