Moving OS from one HDD to another and still use both

I have a 1 TB HDD in my computer and was recently given a new HDD that can only hold 250 GB. Since it was a bit smaller I figured I could move my OS over to that one along with pictures and movies and all that fun stuff. I would keep the TB HDD for games since it would free up some space on it by moving the OS and whatnot. What is installed on my main HDD right now is about 3x the amount the new one can hold, so I can't just move it all over and erase what I don't want on the new one. So, my question is: How exactly do I move the OS over as well as my movies, music, and pictures, while keeping other games and programs on the other HDD? As always, thank you for your time and your insights on this matter. :)

Solution
It's a lot more complicated than just moving files. As far as I know you can't do what you want. You would have to install the OS on the new HDD while the old drive was disconnected. Then install any software you want to reside on the new one. Then you could connect the old one and move files to the new one.

Solution
What are you trying to accomplish?
Normally, a 1tb hard drive is a slightly faster and a better choice for the OS.
Use the new drive for whatever expansion you might want.

Ultimately, plan on a SSD for the os.
But, that likely will require a clean install and reinstall of anything that uses the registry.

I am just trying to separate my OS, music, documents, pictures, and all media from my C drive, where games and programs are installed.

Organization and personal preference. OCD. Whatever you want to call it. And yes, I would be willing to do all the extra work just to get it that way. So please, accept the fact that I'm different from you, and help me.
