I have installed 6GB of RAM in a Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop with Windows 2008 Server R2 Enterprise & it's only recognizing 3.6GB of RAM. I also have Windows 2008 Server R2 standard, Data Center, and Web all of them 64 bit OSes.

How do I make it to recognize over 5GB? I've done it before with Windows 2008 Server R2 64-bit.

Below I've copied specs from my system:

Solution
Look in your bios of the computer that is running windows server.
If your in luck the bios should have an option of memory hole remapping.
Make sure it is enabled, if the bios firmware has the option.
Verify that the bios is reading all 5Gb of the memory in the memory slots of the motherboard.
The amount of memory installed should show on the first or main bios page.

Save the new settings before you exit the bios.

Once your in windows server, if there is an option to run a program or execute one via windows search.
open it up and in the box type MSCONFIG.

A window. should open, with optional tabs to click on at the top.
Click on the boot tab.
You should see a tick box saying maximum memory.
Tick the box and set the value to how...

Tick the box and set the value to how much memory you have installed then click apply.

Restart your system and verify windows server has access to all 5 Gb of memory fitted in the system.

Be aware also that the laptop will have integrated, embedded graphics chip. it will use the main system memory, or a chunk of it. there should be setting in the laptops bios where you can limit the amount of system memory is reserved for the graphics chip.
If you reduce the value. it will be added back to the system memory giving you more for windows server to use.
