Laptop RAM upgrade question with onboard memory

I got my Asus G50JW-CN139H and it has 4gb onboard ram and 1 slot filled with 1x4gb ram 1600mhz.
Since the onboard memory is irremovable, can i simply upgrade my 4gb 1600mhz to 8gb 1600 mhz? Will there be any problem by mixing both of the ram? Thanks in advance

I also have Asus X550LA , usually asus has 4gb onboard and one extra slot , so he might be asking about two options
1. upgrade to 4gb to get dual channel ( if supported , not sure how to find out)
2. upgrade to 8gb and go with single channel.

If money is not an issue which option is more better.
