Hello everyone.
I've spent roughly $1800 on a new PC build, and it is really frustrating me. Every part came in yesterday. I researched and ran every part through PCPartPicker, no redflags for anything. Now everything is hooked up and my basement is a mess. I've had two people that work on PCs all day come look at it, and they haven't a clue.
My problem is mainly that the computer boots up for 2 seconds then cuts out. It gets as high as code 56 (Invalid CPU type or Speed) on a regular basis, then plummets to 36 (CPU post-memory initialization), then instantly to the double 00 (Not used). I read online that holding the ROG Connect button for 3 seconds then resetting the motherboard may be a solution.
When I do this, it stays on for maybe 3.5 seconds and it gets as high as 79 (CSM initialization) then jumps down to 36 (CPU post-memory initialization).
My idea is that I have the wrong RAM, but I doubt it. It said it was compatible, I just had to go into the BIOS and turn on XMP for the higher frequency ram. I'm using 2133MHz RAM opposed to 1600MHz. It is in the proper voltage for the CPU too. The motherboard claims it needs the BIOS to be updated in order to work with a 4th Gen i7. I have the 4790k, in which I've also ran the Flashback for the most recent BIOS update. From what the manual told me, it seems like it went by smoothly.
I have re-seated all the RAM and checked every connection. I don't get this problem.
My Processor: i7-4790k (NOT DEVILS CANYON)
My Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Extreme
My RAM: GSKILL Ripjaws X 2133MHz (2x8GB)
My PSU: Antec Edge 750w Gold Certified Fully Modular
My VC: EVGA GTX 970 4GB
I need help, I don't know if I should RMA one of these parts or I'm overlooking something relatively simplistic. I have a 4GB stick of DDR3 1600MHz RAM from a colleague at the office, I think all the memory codes I was getting earlier means it needs to be 1600MHz.
My hunch is to use this 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, then if it boots into the BIOS, change the XMP profile, then reset with the 2133MHz RAM.
