Upgrading the Graphics Card of an Alienware X51- current card is a GTX 660

I wish to upgrade the card, but am inexperienced and don't know too much about how to do it or where to go. Also concerns like power usage and air-flow are things that I don't truly understand.

Is upgrading the card possible without any serious sacrifices?

The gtx 660 is a great card but your gonna need to go future proof. What is your power supply and do you care how much you spend? cause if you have a good enough psu id reccommend the r9 290 or gtx 970, I have the 290x and that runs perfectly but that may be too expensive if you have a budget or if you dont have an 800W psu

I love the card, its just that I find myself needng a bit more power as I want to get the maximum out of games coming out and currently am having to turn off quite a few graphical options to ensure the game is running at an fps I enjoy.
