I have a refurb Dell Inspiron Laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64.
I have a commercial embroidery machine that I would like to connect to my laptop through a router. This connection would be LAN. I would also like to connect wirelessly to the shop internet for internet access.
Set up needs to be like this:
1. Ethernet cable from machine to router connected to port 1, Ethernet cable from port 2 on router to laptop.
2. Wireless connection to store wireless.
As long as I don't have the enternet cable plugged into my laptop, I have internet connection, but as soon as I plug it in, the router connects and I get no internet connection.
Essentially the embroidery machine is a second computer. I guess that's why the connection from the embroidery machine to the laptop has to go through a router. All I know is that the software and hardware company tells me it must be this way.
When my machine was at home, I connected directly to the home router and everything worked fine. With my old Dell XPS laptop (XP os), the machine connection was ethernet to router and then laptop talked to router via wireless, but no internet connection this way. The shop owner is not willing to run ethernet to the front of the store where my embroidery studio is, so I have to figure out another way or not have internet access.
Is it possible to have things set up and work the way I want it to? The tech support guy at the embroidery machine company seems to think there is, but won't tell me what I need to do to get internet and connection to my machine.
Thanks,
Alisa
