I can't find any real information or benchmarks regarding the use of a single GPU card to power a 1080p eyefinity setup. I've found only 2 videos supporting the use of one card but using a 4gb vram card.

The card in question is the MSI TWIN FRZR R9 270. Also figured it be worth mentioning my cpu is an i5-3470 @ 3.2.

These are the two videos of people running games @ 5780x1080p.

BF4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwAdhl_eKDk
WOW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoJtp6DAqPc

So my questions are: Has anyone had any experience trying to power 3 1080p monitors in eyefinity specfically for gaming? If so, what kind of framerates, smoothness, and settings did you play at?

If not, will I need to upgrade or crossfire the cards to do so?

Appreciate the advice in advance.

It's a 750ti and 260X, but the latter is not far off a 270, should give you a decent idea of what to expect.

FWIW I've been running 3 screens mostly for productivity reasons for a few years now, but do some gaming when I get time on a 7950 (=r9 280). There are plenty of non-demanding games that run absolutely fine across 3 screens. Some games I then have to make a choice between higher settings on a single screen or significantly lowered settings with eyefinity. I've pretty much always found eyefinity to be the better option for me, personally. Games like tomb raider are awesome across 3 screens and still look good...

Having said all that, I recently had the disappointment of finding Witcher 3 to be the first game that my rig cannot sustain playable frame rates for eyefinity, even on the lowest settings. I'd have to drop the resolution and that (for me, personally) is a step too far. I'll take higher settings at full res on a single screen.

You'll need low expectations, and make sure you either pick your games carefully, or be prepared to drop back to a single screen for certain games either because you don't have the rendering power, or because the game doesn't support eyefinity properly (there are still plenty of those about). But if you're prepared to do that, then you can still have a heap of fun without a big spend.
