Is it really better for a PC to leave it ruining all the time?

I have recently been told that it is not good for my PC to turn it off at night. And it is, in fact, better to never turn it off. And searched online and there seems to be a lot of articals supporting this. Though I have spent my entire life to this point thinking it was the other way around. And my PC sees to slow down the longer I leave it on.

it comes from servers and it people. most servers and it hardware in never turned off. most servers may have one or two drives fail or a power supply but most stay running 24/7. with work pc and it been the same....leaving them on they dont break as often. with a home pc is that during a reg day it can be turned on and off more then 10 times.
when you turn on a pc there always a little voltage spike as the caps in the power supply level out and the mb turns on. newer digital power supply and mb now have anti surge built in to limit this. on older pc depending on the caps used on the mb and power supply you can have a failure. these happen more on cheaper dell and hp do to the parts they use. most home built pc use better parts. the pc i built have lasted more then 7 years with just a drive replacement or upgrades. and i turned that pc on and off daily. one issue with leaving a pc on all day is if there a bown out or a lightning strike near the home it can zap a pc. most uses when there bad weather will turn there pc off and unplug them from the wall to keep them safe. the other issue is if there a parts failure and the pc on but your not home there can be a fire. most home pc have a lot of rubber and plastic that can burn.

I own more than several home computers and I work in I.T. So I am going to tell you DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. It doesn't matter either way. If you are a liberal who cares about the planet, turn it off; if you can't be bothered, like me, leave it on; or you can go halfsy, configure so it will go to sleep by itself on idle.
