Hello, i am excited to try a sli with a "Gigabyte gtx 680 4gb" and am also cautious since this is my first time doing it. Warning, i am a noob lol.
First question, How good does my sli setup compare with single cards these days? Would it be better than any single geforce nvidia card? or what would be the closest rival to my sli in your opinion?
I especially want to know how it would compare to a "gtx 950 ti" which apparently is 650 bucks. and i found the gtx 680 i want for 475 ( i searched and it was the best i could find that had a trust worthy seller).

Lastly, can i run it? I am pretty confident i can but just to double check i thought i would ask. I am slightly worried about the power supply, but i bought a over kill power supply for this situation.
My specs.
GPU : GTX 680 4GB //CPU : Intel i7-3770K @ 3.50 ghz //Memory :vengeance 16GB(x2 8GB)
hard-drive : caviar black 2TB //SSD : Intel730 480GB //
Operating system : Windows 8.1 // monitor resolution : 1920x1080 80hz
Motherboard : 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI, DP, SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel
Power supply : seasonic X 1050 watt..
Keyboard logitech g510
mouse : Tt eSPORTS BLACK Laser Gaming Mouse MO-BLK002DT
cooling : NZXT Kraken X40 RL-KRX40-01 Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 140MM
Tower case : Cooler Master HAF X

So how much cushion in the power supply department do you think i have about with my build? Do i have plenty of room , barely cutting it or not enough ( i doubt that tho) ?

Thanks for reading! = )

Your PSU is enough to SLI two 680.
SLI 680 should perform very close or even a bit better than a single 980ti I guess, but you have to deal with all the extra noise, power consumption and SLI problems.

Here you can find 980ti vs SLI 970, which should perform very close to SLI 680.

for $475 i would advise you NOT to get that 2nd gtx 680. what i would suggest is that you just get a single GTX 980, which is now only around $499 and you will have less issues. then at that point you can consider doing the SLI with the 980 if you have already researched enough. IMHO, a used 680 should not be more than $350 now

Ok thank you very much , sounds like everything i was assuming was correct. But what about these sli issues? could you elaborate on that please? Im ok with extra noise and power composition tho.

I agree with the price of the 680, i was surprised at how big the price tag was. I would LOVE it if you could find a "gigabyte gtx 680 4gb" for 400 bucks or less.
But even at 475 for the gtx680, that is still cheaper than the 980 thats about 500-530 and the gtx sli would perform better than the 980 if i am correct.
So what is it about the sli do you dislike? I honestly am unaware of the issues people can have with sli as i havent researched that yet.

Thanks for your input, i am worry free now about the psu. Only thing i think i have to worry about is the SLI issues you can run into , which i dont know of yet. My guess is screen tear or something maybe? Also i worry if my motherboard can handle two gtx 680's, i dont know if its big enough.

What I meant by SLI issues is things like some games not supporting SLI, some games need some settings tweaking, for some new games you need to wait a few days/weeks before a SLI profile is available, SLI can cause stuttering in certain games...
Those problems only affect some games, but it's something to consider before getting a 2nd GPU.

Is that really the only major issue? Because cant you just right click your desktop and click nvidia settings to quickly turn off SLI for a little while for a buggy game , and then as soon as your done playing that game , you can just turn it back on just as easily? or is there some complication that i am missing?

To me as far as i know , its a simple toggle to turn sli on and off.

yea true , thanks. well i just need it for bf4 , smite and league of legends. Tho every game i google about sli, all i find is people complaining about the issues they have with it = / . So its a tough choice to make.
