Hi Guys and Galls,
I have been having problems with the above combination and several problems have come to note. Initially, the drive was not recognized in win 7 pro explorer. Disk management revealed that no drive letter was being assigned and this was duly sorted. However the Toshiba will not work on the dedicated mobo (blue) USB Ports, even thou I am confident the latest asimedia usb controller driver is installed. Indeed Windows will not start if the device is plugged into one of these usb 3 ports .Note. OK on usb 2 ports. This is where the fun has started. What a total pain in the butt the asus software is and from reading threads on this forum and others I am not alone!

Ok firstly even if i could manage to install it the latest bios for this mobo no relative usb issues are noted. Ok I will try and install Asus suite II from disk and use asus updater. No joy. Ok I will down load latest from asus. No joy. Ok install Asus live updater. Waste of time. Ok here is a installer patch. No joy. Ok clean out the registry entry's No joy.

How do you install asus software and is this post in the wrong place!

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Hey, Willy!

Have you tried the external on another USB 3.0-compatible computer? You've mentioned that you can see the drive in Disk Management through the USB 2.0 ports, so I'd have to ask if you've initialized it from there? Once the drive is initialized, you should be able to partition & format it, and assign a drive letter. Here's a tutorial that might help you with that: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=fO9wmJ
I'd suggest you to check your motherboard manufacturer's website again and go through the available drivers for it, make sure you've got the right USB 3.0 controller drivers. You should also try the suggested solution from this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1698275/wierd-usb-issue-asus-m5a97.html...

However, I don't think it's advisable to upgrade and flash your BIOS unless it's absolutely necessary! You should be very careful when flashing BIOS and it's usually required when there has been a hardware/component change on your system. Otherwise, a simple reset of BIOS might do the trick: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS

Hope this helps. Keep me posted. :)

Hi SuperSoph,
All sorted.
1. Faualty Usb 3 controller which I believe has been 'taken out' by a defective Seagate device which the Toshiba was bought to replace.

2. Windows though seeing the Ex drive in disk manager did not assign a drive letter and hence the Toshiba was not seen in explorer. Ok now.

Bios updating not a problem only Asus software is. Maybe post on mobo section!

Asmedia usb 3 controller drivers, although displayed as installed in device manager were reinstalled with those downloaded from link in your post (thanks for that)

Many thanks,

willy
