I have a asus p8h67m-pro mobo. It has 2 sata 3 ports and 4 sata 2 ports. Now when it was built, the assembler used up both the sata 3 ports to connect an optical drive and a Seagate HDD. Now, I am going to install a ssd today. So I need a sata 3 port. Is it okay if I switch the optical drive with the ssd and connect the optical drive to a new sata 4 port? Or will the BIOS face problem in detecting it when I first boot up?
(I'll be doing a clean install of the OS on the ssd, disconnecting the hdd first)

Solution

It should be fine. But swap the optical drive to the other Sata port before you install the SSD, just to be sure.

By the way, you don't have to clean install the OS - you can clone the HD onto the SSD, and save massive time...

I know. But cloning has a lot of risks and might end up with stability and performance issues. In fact I checked almost every post on clean vs cloning on tomshardware and most of the people here recommended clean install over cloning.

Yeah, thanks. It worked.
