Moved RAID 1 to new system and can't see drive under Intel Rapid Storage software

Thanks for any help.

I recently built a new system (Windows 7 to Windows 7) and moved my RAID 1 drives (not boot drives) to my new system. I expected that the RAID would vanish and I’d have to set it up again, but it was recognized as a drive with the data intact. I couldn’t figure out if it was actually working right so I even unplugged separate drives and reformatted them and reinstalled the data, but they still act as though they are set up at a RAID 1 and show up as a single drive. And I couldn’t figure out how to un-RAID them.

However, they don’t show up in the Intel Rapid Storage software. I get an error triangle that I think is related to this RAID but only my boot SSD and DVD/ROM show up in the list and they don’t show errors. I’ve even gotten a system warning message that my RAID was being checked and rebuilt with a % shown. When I clicked on this message, the Intel Rapid Storage opens up, but the RAID drive is still not shown. Can’t assess it with Control-I during startup (like the old system). And the old system didn’t have the Intel Rapid Storage software but some earlier Intel software.

So, is there any way to access or control this RAID? I don’t mind re-building it; I have the data backed up. I just don’t know where to go from here. Any suggestions to get back to a RAID 1 that I can actually control?

You actually can. Once you turn the raid function on in bios and save changes it will restart once it does then you will have the screen pop up to set up your raid. Make sure you have the information that you have on your c\ drive (model and serial number). When your in the raid set up make sure you do not include your c:\drive in the raid. But you have to include the other two drives. I think it is ctrl I to get into the raid set up. Your getting the error triangle due to your system not being set up for the raid array. It has to be set in bios first then the intel rst will be able to see it. I'll restart and confirm the key combo that is used.

Make sure you turn on the raid on in bios. Since you have data on the drives don't format or anything, you will loose your data. Start up like normal and the drive should be visible at that point, I did that with a 4 drive raid 5 on my computers and didn't loose anything, made it a simple swap that way. Intel RST should pick it up right off the bat and you should be up and running. Shouldn't have a need for any other kind of software or anything like that.

Can't select raid in bios since my system drive is not a raid. Only my second drive (D:\) is in a raid. When I start up (with raid selected in bios) it will not recognize the C:\ drive with the operating system.

Thanks indsup. You got me on the right track.

Bios changed to RAID, Control-I showed the right set-up but nothing to do here.

System flashed a blue screen, windows rebooted. Start normal would flash a blue screen and reboot, startup repair would hang at system restore.

Finally had to video the reboot to see what was happening on the blue screen.

STOP 0x0000007B

Solution here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/922976

Error message occurs after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive

Changed BIOS back to ACHI to apply the microsoft registry fix. Changed BIOS back to RAID.

Then it rebooted correctly.

RST would not run, had to repair the installation.

Now everything is running correctly and showing correctly in RST!

Thanks for you help!
