The 4790K came out after most Z87 motherboards did. But every company out there put out an updated BIOS to support than and the 4690K chips.
I just updated my BIOS a week ago on an AsRock Z87 motherboard board. And that made this system compatible with those chips in the process.
Yes, because it is the same socket, though you might have to update the bios of the Z87 motherboard to make it compatible with the new haswell line up.
