affordable graphic card with great performance

my main purpose will be 3d designing (CAD), but i will be gaming too

but its soo expensive. any suggestions on graphic card of similar (or lower, but not too much lower) performance that wont break the bank?

The regular R9 290 fits your price range, and still quite a powerful card. You'll need a beefy PSU to use the R9 cards, though.

There are a couple GTX 970's that have gone on sale for just a hair over 300.

The Sapphire cards seem to be pretty highly regarded, but it does seem quite large.
