Do I have to use the fan controller on the NZXT Phantom 410 Case?

So in simple terms, can I plug my stock NZXT chassis fans into my motherboard and totally disregard the stupid fan controller?

Of course not, the fan controller is nothing but a hub to which the fans are attached to which is then attached to a switch.
