My external hard drive was dropped from a table tonight while still connected to my computer. It landed on the part where the cables enter it and one was very bent. It still has power but won't connect to my commuter. I have tried using another cable. It isn't making any noise to show it's working at all but the lights come on. HELP!

If you are somewhat competent with hardware you could try to open the case and see if any connections have broken. There is a chance that a wire / solder joint could have broken. Some drives have a 'G-shock' sensor that can protect the drive:

If you can open it, you might see some damage and perhaps hook the drive up to a desktop computer or another external case.

If you're not confident enough, you can take the drive to a place like BestBuy / Staples and see if a tech would be willing to try it in another external case for you.

Good Luck
Hey there, Cherie82.

This sounds pretty unfortunate :(
How do you know that the drive is powered up if you don't hear it spin-up or vibrate while connected? If your judgement is based on a led indicator on the enclosure, having in mind the sustained physical damage - the drive might not be operational, but the enclosure could still report (via the led light) that there's power. Your best an most reliable option here would be a professional solution, such as a data recovery company if you want to retrieve the data.

Good luck!
