I'm planning to buy ASROCK H97 PRO4 to go with my i5 4590. I keep on hearing go for asus, go for gigabyte or sometimes msi but i havent heard much about asrock. Are they really poor in terms of quality control or is it just bad marketing on part of asrock? Do they use low quality components? I ve also read (sometime last year) that asrock boards tend to fry often and kill the processor along with it. Is it true? How is the quality control in their latest boards? (2014-2015)

I built a ASrock H97 with a Xeon for a friend recently and the build is holding up great, BIOS is easy to navigate and parts seem good but I have read alot of mixed reviews, either greats boards or DOA (not exactly ASrocks fault, bad shipping?). With Tom's "Best Of" MB list they seem to make really good Z97 boards and if there are issues they usually reply on reviews ive seen in Newegg. I will order from them for my next build which will be blue/black & white themed.

For my own, i have many problems with asrock motherboard Z97 extrem 6.
First i go with it because of good adds/technical perfs. But the story was a bad story by the time... quickly.
In 9 months of use, mother board suddently failed. At boot time, she go in turn to reboot each 10 seconds, then quickly in 3 seconds.
After send back the motherboard to the Thai relaiser (impossible to have the Asrock company to know what's happen, and impossible to have a number of follower quality...), i had an other one (not new for sure) in more than two months !!! Theses one can boot, but failed to have more than 2 DDRAM (16 Gb), and has other problems for boot UEFI stuff.
I loose my time, my money, and there is no serious solution.
Consider, if you want to do somthing seriously, to never buy Asrock component, because of very bad quality of component and bed more quality of service when problem occur.
With some others company (has Corsair), if you have a problem, they never make story or never make you wainting long time, just change for real new one (who has been tested and works).
I don't know why Asrock loose his reputation by never assume there errors.
Good luck with Asrock, hope you will not do to much intensive work with this bad material quality.

Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad I chose MSI H97 gaming motherboard as I was a bit sceptical on ASRock material quality. Having been used my MSI for over 6 months now, I've had no issue in it, works perfectly with cool temperatures!
I'd recommend MSI

I had that same motherboard and it was PURE hell. It was freezing from Day 1, for no reason all the time, it kept crashing, and finally the pc stopped turning on altogether after 4 months. The manufacturer's warranty wouldn't work outside of the US knowing that I live and purchased it from a CANADIAN retailer via amazon. Asrock was SO difficult to get ahold of, nobody cared to help, and after 2 months of meaningless emails they told me I'm out of luck because I don't have a US address (WHAT THE ?) Faulty motherboard, extremely loud and lousy, freezing all the time.
Just ordered a beautiful ASUS 99FX and it works like a charm! very happy
