i have a HP pavilion laptop which suddenly faces a optical drive error. the device is listed on my computer and also on device manager but neither it is running nor it is poping out when I press the eject button. Not to mention that it is not reading any discs as well because the motors are not running (I think).
can anyone please suggest me the possible reason behind this.

Can you try the software (right click on the drive icon in explorer) eject? If that doesn't work, there is usually a small hold near the eject button for a paperclip (emergency / power off ejector) to poke in. This will let you put a disc in.

You can try to disable and re-enable the drive in Device Manager.

You can try to turn off the laptop and try to disconnect, then reconnect the dvd drive. (there are screws on the bottom with an icon of a cd next to them usually).

Good Luck
