Intel i5 4690 vs AMD FX-9590?

Solution
Well, it really comes down to this: do you use your PC mainly for gaming or do you do heavy multitasking? If you mainly game then you should go for the intel chip. Yes, it has less cores and the high frequency rate might make the amd one look better but games don't use many cores (most of them use 2-4) and in actual single core performance the i5 wins easily.

Now if you do heavy multitasking I would recommend the amd one but only if you're willing to overclock and spend a little extra on an aftermarket cooler beacuse it will run really hot and a stock cooler won't be able to keep it cool.

Overall I would definetely recommend the Intel one just beacuse it performs more reliably and better and consumes less power and will actually run...

Overall I would definetely recommend the Intel one just beacuse it performs more reliably and better and consumes less power and will actually run cool with a stock cooler.

Now if you want to overclock the i5 you will have to buy the i5-4690k and not the i5-4690. The 'k' at the end means that it's unlocked and ready to overclock, but if you want to do that then you have to buy a motherboard with a z97 chipset that supports it and also you should consider an aftermarket cooler if you want to achieve higher clockspeeds. It might sound like a hassle but neither the z97 chipset and the aftermarket cooler will cost you that much more money and you might be able to get a 5-10 fps improvement if you do it correctly especially with a GTX 970.

Hope this helped!
