What does this update do to my graphics card?

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 graphics card (OC Edition).

So occasionally I check for updates for my computer through windows update and I came across an optional update published today which is titled "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc - Other Hardware - AMD SMBus."

It has a size of 30 KB and under the title it reads: "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc Other hardware software update released in January, 2015."

So it was released in January, 2015 but published today which is weird.

I was wondering if this is a display driver update which I do not want to download from windows update because I do it through the AMD website.

Also if not, should I install it, will it give me improved performance in gaming, etc? I'm generally OCD about these kinds of things and always like to keep my computer updated and not leave an update behind.

Thanks.

Those windows updates give mostly the patches to the OS. But then and there they give driver updates to support the 3rd party drivers. You can install that update and see what happens. Of cause you can uninstall an update if you want. You can get the article number of the update to search it on the internet and get an idea.

Oh, you don't think its an update though right for like the driver date? Otherwise I think it would be a bigger size.
