Okay thank you for your reply

I put in both sets of my ram into the slots, Pulled each one and replaced as above.
My findings were that it didnt matter what slot was unpopulated 1 through to 4 the computer would not boot with ram
I pulled out 1 set (both 4g sticks) and tried them in slots 1-2, 3-4 and 2-4 and the computer still would not boot.
After pulling those two and replacing with the other set the pc booted first time no matter what slots the ram populated.

So obviously this is a problem with the ram but I have my fears that its not going to be as simple as this as I am sure I did the same thing previously
and still ran into errors when under load.

I Already spoke to the hardware reseller and am covered under warranty for the ram. However what advice would you give on the system ?
Should I just get another set of 8g through warranty and try again or will I need to upgrade the power supply in order to run 4 sets of hyper x ram ?

The booting up then failing after a very short time shouted RAM at me but it seems you've got that covered.

Since you mentioned overclocking, I suggest you try to get into BIOS on one of the occasions when it does start up and reset to default settings. Something may have become confused in the o/c'ing process.

Well I cleared the cmos or at least I followed the instructions to clear the cmos and also resetting the defualt settings was one of my first attempts.

I had a few games of leage of legends after sorting the memory out and didnt seam to have any problems. I hit the gym earlier and shut the machine down. Once I got got home I started the machine and it blue screened upon logging into windows.

Now I am having major isssues it must have corrupted something, I cannot acces the internet from the machine, I cannot use windows 8 home search.
I have put in the installation cd to restore the OS and now im having problems with the drive being locked and being unable to fix the OS.

I am so frustrated, the memory ran fine through tasks and this is the 3rd time I have now encountered issues where Ive had to restore my os due to crashes.

I can send everything back to the supplier and they will test it but the shipping is expensive and also I will be without a workstation for several weeks.

I am contemplating using parts from another pc to test and see where the issue is. Just wondering if there were any faster solutions.

Well Im still working on it, now the pc wont boot not even into the bios, even with both hard drives taken out of the machine, I keep getting no signal from my monitor. I have tried to boot the machine with no ram, no hard drives and im now about to pull my graphics card.

Im amazed at how much trouble I am having here. Ive built machines in the past with old parts that have been stuck in dusty boxes for months and had less problems than this. A complete new build with brand new parts and it cannot even sustain a boot.

I wouldnt mind but the whole set up cost me a few thousand.

Update>>>>>

Have pulled GPU, Wifi card, ram and hard drives from the machine. Powered on with monitor connected to the motherboard. Still getting shutdowns.
Unplugged monitor and still having the shutdowns. Wont boot into bios and gives no signal to monitor.

Im going to remove the board from the chassis and check my components for damage. I have been recieving error codes from the motherboard regarding
what I believe is a USB error code and another error for possible SSD failure.

Well guys thats everything removed, I re assembled the board PSU and graphics card outside of the chassis and booted the board with monitor connected. Booted up for a few seconds no signal to monitor, shutdown and powered on again.
So now im lost for words as what the problem is or what to do next.

I am not familiar with what component damage looks like however there are patches on the back of the board in certain places that are reflective as if they are coated in a liquid. The MSI board is a matte black colour so these parts stand out.

The machine has not been exposed to any liquids and is litterally a month or two old. Its rarely been used until recently due to me working.

Part of me things that I did something wrong during the assembly but Ive built machines before and also followed instructions and a build guide to the letter. I even checked Artic silvers website on the correct way to apply TP to my I5 haha.

So yeah a few grands worth of components not working and I have no idea what caused the problem.

Sound to me, after all you have done, that the motherboard is bad. It's a new machine, I would contact MSI support (by phone so you are actually talking to a human) and describe what you have done. They will probably issue an RMA (return). If it is soon enough, the seller probably has or had a warranty and you might be able to exchange it with them.
Too me, the last test you did with just the mobo seems to have narrowed it down to the mobo
If the selller is willing to warranty the RAM also, then just replace it; but I think the problem is in the mobo.
And you probably did NOTHING wrong: parts, even new parts, fail on occasion; we have all been victims.

I'll check back later this weekend, have to go to work.

Have called up the retailer and and explained the problem and how I tested the board. The guy on the phone seemed to agree with my methods and directed me to the warranty return on the website.

I applied for the warranty return and it has been approved so now I just have to post the hardware back to the company.
The email states that I have to send the motherboard with the CPU socket cover on the board however it was a month after building and testing the pc initally and I had no problems so I threw the hardware packaging and accidently chucked the socket cover.

Im worried the issue is going to be something other than the board but maybe thats just me overthinking. Once I pick up some packaging from store I will send the board back and hopefully recieve a new board.

Im slightly worried they are going to pin this on installation damage however going over it in my head there is no logical reason why this board has gone bad from something I have done.

Well ive not returned the board yet so they have not done anything wrong as of yet, the email they sent me after my warranty return had been approved just stated guidlines for returning the product. However it goes into detail and there are lots of loop wholes that could void the warranty such as damage in transit or Thermal paste in the socket.

I will hopefully be able to purchase packaging tomorrow and will either ship it tomorrow or Monday. Will keep updated, thanks for the support so far :)

Yeah thats what I was thinking, im going to check around the town but I struggled to find a version of windows here nevermind computer components haha. Should all be good, I cant wait to get my rig back up and running haha having to use an old laptop for now.

Thanks to all those who offered up advice.

Sorry for the late reply,
The motherboard has been returned to the reseller who sent it to msi for testing. Recieved an email the other day saying that a replacement will be shipped to me. So I guess that means the problem was the motherboard.

Would like to thank all of those in the threat who helped and gave advice regarding the issue and hopefully I shouldnt have anymore issues.

I think you jinxed me haha,

Well the new motherboard arrived the otherday and I just finished assembling the components in the case about 20 minutes ago... Ive spent the past 20 minutes troubleshooting... AGAIN!.

First the monitor would not recieve a signal with my HDMI plugged into the graphics card, I swapped the HDMI to the onboard graphics and removed my GPU. Still no joy.

Ive removed all 4 ram sticks and tried each one again. Eventually got to the point where the machien would boot into bios with 2 sticks. Managed to get as far as sorting my boot order when the bios crashed.

Now having the same problems that I had before I returned my previous board. Memory Management blue screen. Boot cycling.. No signal.

Removed CMOS battery, All ram sticks, Unplugged Hard drives. Tried different sata ports. Still wont make it into windows.
Getting Error messages 99 9C and A2... again...

This is really destroying my confidence here... Im in a good mind to take it to the local Internet provider and asking their tech guy to check it over. My old mans giving me grief and patronizing me. Saying things along the lines of go over your handbook and check everything and I must be doing something wrong... I wish I was it would make it so much easier to find the problem.

I have installed each cable, component systematically... by the book. literally like the terminator himself would... Still no joy, Im putting it down for the night before I launch it offworld.

Just thought I would swing by and ask the gurus for wisdom once again..

Hey guys, well its been a few days. My old man had a look at the pc. We tried a different hard drive with an OS on and the pc still wouldnt boot. Ive tried My old mans Ram in the machine and still have no luck. I religously tested my own ram in my build and found only 1 stick worked in 1 of the slots.

The system basically attempts to boot repeatedly until it eventually drops the overclock settings (not overclocking basically stock) then I can get into the bios.

I get paid later on today and tomorrow I will be taking the machine into my local IT buisness. After speaking with a tech there seems they will be able to test it.

The only thing I have not tested is my CPU basically because I cant but considering the only way you can fit the cpu into these sockets is by lining up the tabs on the cpu with the holes on the socket. I think you would have to be very special in order to mess that one up...

In line with every other PC component, and with Murphy's Law of Aircraft Engineering, the CPU will only fit one way round and one way up. If it needs force to install it, it ain't the right way around or up.

Murphy's Law states that if a component can be fitted in the wrong, it will be and a disaster may occur.

We thank Murphy for his law every time we go six miles up from the planet in a flimsy aluminium tube and most PC builders are also grateful to him - whoever he was. :D

Haha, now that made me giggle.. Brilliant. Thanks for cheering me up a little. This whole ordeal is really crushing my spirits lol.
If it turns out this motherboard is DOA I will not be using that reseller again.. dont think I will ever touch MSI products again either.
