Hi,

I recently went on Newegg for a customer who wanted a budget friendly computer that is quick for web browsing only...before I hand over the computer I take it through my "test derive process" to make sure it is 100% for the customer and that is when I realized that the computer is slow....the slowest I've ever seen.I have never had this happen but here are the specs thanks

AMD A6-5400K Trinity Dual-Core 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 65W AD540KOKHJBOX Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX ...

GIGABYTE GA-F2A68HM-H FM2+ AMD A68H 4 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD

Avexir Core Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Memory Kit Model AVD3U16001104G-1CW

Silicon Power S60 3K P/E Cycle Toggle MLC 2.5" 120GB 7mm SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

windows 7 for the OS and I added a extra 4gb of ram that was laying around to see if it would help and it actually did.....A LITTLE.
Yes, I know these specs aren't great but my customer only needs something that can browse the internet quickly. I cant open internet explorer without it(IE) crashing right away.

Any help is appreciated,

Kevin

lemme know if more info is needed...

Solution

You can build a new one, with an Intel Pentium G3258 (price range should be about same), move the SSD and RAM from old one to it. Then find some cheap, maybe used, DDR3 and old HDD you won't use. Also get some really cheap case and power supply.

And now you can sell the one with A6-5400k for someone at cheap price, but high enough to cover the part expenses and maybe give a bit profit. (something like 150-200$)
Could be many things. Unstable memory, faulty SSD, overheating or faulty CPU, power supply issues, incorrect BIOS settings, and so on. Crashing app indicates that it is most likely a hardware issue. I would start with the following:

- reset BIOS settings to default.
- check the CPU temps and all cooling systems
- try a different PSU
- use only a single memory stick, and then replace this one with other brand if this problem persists (do not use 2 of them at the same time, just for test).
- try using a different SSD like Samsung, Crucial, Intel etc, this one looks suspicious to me even by its name :D Could be faulty.
- follow up by replacing the CPU and / or motherboard as a last resort

Ok ill try all of this how can i check my ssd because i thought it was a good one on newegg and it was a 5 start product and came with a 5 yr warranty ......i dont think i can
change the mobo/processor unless you mean i get a replacement...cpu temps hit 52c on full load(which is all the time ....ill check the rest when i get home

I built a pc to my parents with A6-5400k and if you use any of the 3 big names: IE, Firefox, Chrome, it WILL use the cpu on full load. Nothing you can do about that.
That's just how weak it is.

For such pc users as my parents, it does not matter. But any power user might find it too weak.

It just can't be fast even at web browsing if all cores are hitting 100% all the time. It has only two cores, and very slow ones at that. Web browsing these days requires much power. You could consider a switch to intel pentium G3258 build instead, much higher single thread performance, should do way better. Or at least a faster AMD CPU with more (and faster) cores, like A8 or A10 series.

tried with a new stick and still no luck and this is embarrassing for me as a company that I am building something like this.....I don't think I can return my processor(newegg) so I have no idea what to do.....any other options/ideas?
Thanks,
Kevin
