Acer Aspire with built in mic.
Control panel....manage audio devices....recording.
Displays
1/"microphone..Realtek HD Audio..not plugged in"
2/"stereo mix...Realtek HD Audio...default device"
Can you please tell me if 2/ indicates that the internal mic is recognised as stereo mix or the stereo mix is something quite different?

Solution
2/ has nothing to do with the microphone. Stereo mix is used for recording the sounds produced by the sound card (ie the sounds you can hear through the speakers, whether it be music in Windows Media Player or music/voice on a website).

Thank you very much, that was very useful. Is there a section within Audio devices that should show the internal microphone ?
The reason for these questions is that I have tried all the regular suggestions for getting the internal mic to work and none were successful. I thought that if I could find where the internal mic was located I could start from there.
Thank you for your reply.
