windows 7 ultimate startup hangs with a black screen and blinking curser

when I start windows 7 ultimate, it goes to a black screen with a blinking curser and will NOT go past this unless I hit the return button at the blinking cursor. Then it starts up the rest of the way normally. I think I am missing some command in my startup file because I should not have to hit return to get the computer to start

Did you perform a full upgrade when you upgraded to Ultimate, or just a Windows Anytime Upgrade?

Where did you get the installation media from that you used to perform the upgrade?

In your PM, you mentioned MS asking for payment to "fix" this. Did you contact them or did they contact you?
