I finally have the money to upgrade my graphics card and I was looking for advice? I currently have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 installed and I'm looking for an upgrade that will work with my PC. My specs are:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz 2.83GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Operating System: Windows 8

GTX 970 - $380 (probably a little lower as you have less tax in the US)

I just upgraded from a 460 to that and it arrived today. Its a lot better than what you've been used too with the 460!

960 will max out most current games in 1080p with more than 30fps. It wont max out GTA V. You'll need a 970 for that with its 4GB. The 970 will do you more than the 1080p too. It makes GTA V look better than PS4 version. Visiongasmic!

In two weeks AMD releases its Rx 300 series. If you are concerned about the cost of the 970 you could buy one then. The prices will probably come down a little as a result. There is the Rx 290 as well which has 4GB and that's about $80 more than the 960.

Yes, the amount of physical memory storage for the card. Higher is better and on more graphics entense games it does matter. I would go with the 4gb without a doubt. Having half the VRAM you might highly regret a few years down the road.
