I have recently downloaded a torrent and the file ended up being an .exe file and I wasn't able to launch it. So after trying everything I could think of I changed the opening program to Utorrent and now every .exe file opens in Utorrent. I need to figure out how to change it back to the base program. I can also change the opening program to notepad etc... but I can't find the original program. I also can't open the regedit because it's and .exe. I can't do the Fix It For Me thing on Microsoft either. The RUN program is also messed up. I can't do anything that involves a .exe. PLease help I don't want to have to wipe my computer.

Problem 1. "I have recently downloaded a torrent and the file ended up being an .exe file "
Why would you run an exe from a torrent? Prime vector for malware and viruses.

Problem 2. How to unassociate. A Restore Point to a day before you did this?

1. I made sure my Buddies did it before me so I could be sure nothing happened.

2. I have no Restore points

1. OK, right. That is no indication. Malware installs itself in the background. You do not see it.

2. Wipe and reinstall. For more than one reason.

Short answer: No.

Long answer:
How to unassociate each and every exe file from defaulting to utorrent?
No idea.

The fact that even regedit is screwed points even more to reinstalling the system.

This will also get rid of the malware that is certainly breeding in that system.

If you got them legally (highly doubt it at this point) you should be able to re download.
