i have a 1tb hard drive with 6 partitions, 1 of them is boot drive, another 1 is a primery drive(both of them has win 7 installed). & the rest 4 is my documents. i want to format & install fresh win on them. i think i remember deleting the partition data once. So, that's why i'm asking how can i format them without messing it all up. thanks

You remove windows.old via Disk Cleanup - 'Remove old Windows versions'

1. Why the same OS installed on 2 partitions?

2. Just reinstall the OS to your chosen partition. It should not mess with the others.
Of course, there is ALWAYS the potential for fail, so have your stuff backed up elsewhere.

But you can't format a partition AND keep the data on it. Format, and it's gone.
