But, what resolution are you going to be playing at? 3 980 tis is like 3 titan x, and is REALLY overkill.

I'd say just get ONE 980ti. It's usually best to get a single GPU that's more powerful than a single of the cards you're going to SLI because there's a lot of problems with SLI like compatibility. Something like a 980ti would be good for you (I just upgraded from two 770s and it's a beast).
