Ok this is going to be a tough one, I know if I get a 23 or 24" 4k display I can run 1080p "retina/hidpi" mode which is great but I am looking for 1440p real estate. I was wondering if its possible to create a custom resoltuon / render at 5120x2880 to a native 1440p screen to enable the mac to give me a 1440p hidpi mode? I will be running with at least one gtx 980 so gpu power to drive that resolution will not be an issue at 60hz.
